Cheick-Oumar Sylla Appointed Director of North Africa for the International Finance Corporation (IFC)

Cheick-Oumar Sylla will be based in Cairo, Egypt, and will lead the International Finance Corporation’s (IFC) investment and advisory services teams in Egypt, Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, and Libya.

IFC’s portfolio in North Africa currently stands at US$1.58 billion.  Cheick-Oumar Sylla is responsible for leading IFC’s strategy to support private sector growth and job creation in North Africa.

Cheick-Oumar Sylla, explains IFC, has more than 30 years of experience in international investment and development, particularly in Africa and the Middle East.

Prior to his appointment, Cheick-Oumar Sylla was, since October 2019, IFC’s country representative for the Horn of Africa (Ethiopia, Eritrea, Djibouti, Sudan and South Sudan).

A graduate of HEC Montreal, Cheick-Oumar Sylla joined IFC in 2017 as Principal Investment Officer for Africa. Previously, he held several senior positions in the energy, telecommunications, banking, pharmaceutical and hospitality sectors.

The International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, is the leading private sector development institution in emerging markets. It operates in more than 100 countries and uses its capital, expertise, and influence to create markets and opportunities in developing countries. In fiscal year 2020, it invested $22 billion in private companies and financial institutions in developing countries, mobilizing private sector capacity to end extreme poverty and promote shared prosperity.
