Marwa Abbas,the first woman to be appointed General Manager of IBM Egypt

Marwa Abbas, whose appointment was announced on Monday 17 January, succeeds Wael Abdoush, who has been appointed IBM’s general manager for the Gulf region, the Arab Mashreq and Pakistan.

As general manager of IBM Egypt, Marwa Abbas will manage all business operations of the company, in addition to her technical role of driving business growth and increasing the scope of cooperation with clients.

Mawa Abbas holds a Master’s degree in Business and General Management and a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science (1994), all from the American University in Cairo. She has been with IBM for over 25 years and has held various management positions at IBM in the Middle East and Africa,especially in Egypt. She is an executive with extensive experience and high technical skills in several key areas such as data technology, automated services, e-security and hybrid cloud, which are key elements of IBM’s growth strategy, said Saad Touma, general manager, IBM Middle East and Africa.

Prior to her appointment, Marwa Abbas led IBM’s Digital Sales Center for customer service in the Middle East and Africa. Marwa Abbas said, “I am very excited to lead the company at this pivotal stage to drive more partnerships and strategic alliances, and accelerate the digital transformation journey in Egypt in line with the national agenda. It is a great honour to be part of this journey by expanding the role of the company, helping our clients and partners in their growth journey, as well as strengthening our role as a dynamic and diverse skills hub serving our clients in Egypt, the Middle East and Africa.”
