Appointed Ecobank Cluster Head in the Central African Economic and Monetary Community (CEMAC), the current Managing Director of Ecobank Cameroon, in addition to her current position, will oversee all business activities of Ecobank’s subsidiaries in Cameroon, Central African Republic, Congo, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Chad and São Tomé.
Gwendoline Abunaw, the group explains, will continue to report to the Regional Executive, CESA (Central, Eastern & Southern Africa).
Gwendoline Abunaw holds a Bachelor’s degree in Banking and Finance from the University of Buea, Cameroon, and an MBA (Master of Business Administration) in Finance from London Metropolitan University.
She started her career in 1998 as an analyst at Standard Chartered Bank Cameroon, before joining Ecobank Cameroon in 2004 as a relationship manager in the then wholesale banking department. In 2005, she joined the corporate banking team of Citibank Cameroon and attained the rank of Resident Vice President (RVP) before returning to Ecobank Cameroon in 2011, as Head of Corporate Banking and was then promoted in 2014 to head the corporate banking business for the CEMAC cluster (Corporate Head cluster). In 2015, Gwendoline Abunaw was appointed Deputy Managing Director of Ecobank Cameroon while continuing to serve as Corporate Head cluster.
Gwendoline Abunaw was also a member of the Board of Directors of Ecobank Cameroon, where, the Group explains, she contributed greatly to the development of the corporate banking business in Cameroon and in the CEMAC cluster. It was in June 2017 that Gwendoline Abunaw was appointed Managing Director of Ecobank Cameroon, becoming the first woman to hold this position. Her years of experience span a wide range of senior management, customer relationship, regulatory and risk areas, working in various roles and institutions within the financial sector.
