Wangui Mbugua appointed General Manager of Uber Eats Kenya

The appointment of Wangui Mbugua, it is explained, is expected to take Uber Eats to an even higher growth trajectory.

Wangui Mbugua’s responsibilities include continuing the growth of Uber’s delivery services in Kenya, where the new CEO says the increasing demand for a variety of delivery services indicates a trend that she expects to continue to grow in the future. Wangui Mbugua said, “I am excited to take up this new position as I have seen the rapid growth of food delivery in Kenya and the growth the company is bringing to the digital economy. The impact of convenience and on-demand commerce on the market is evident. Not only is Uber Eats creating unique job opportunities, but our operations are having a positive ripple effect for restaurants, merchants and delivery drivers.”

Wangui Mbugua joined Uber in September 2019 as head of strategy and planning for Uber Eats Sub-Saharan Africa.
Previously, she worked as head of customer experience at Koko Networks, a technology company, operating in East Africa and India. Koko Networks builds and deploys dense networks of cloud-connected “KOKOpoints” inside neighbourhood shops, which serve as consumer access points for goods and services provided in partnership with leading providers. The first consumer solution is an ethanol-based liquid cooking fuel, which offers significant cost savings and quality of life improvements in the multi-billion dollar urban cooking fuel market.

Wangui Mbugua holds a Masters in International Business and Commercial Law from the University of Manchester. She started her career as a trainee lawyer at leading African law firm Bowmans, where she worked in the Mergers and Acquisitions/Projects team and the Property and Real Estate team, reviewing agreements and documents for due diligence and deal execution purposes. She also wrote opinion pieces for clients.

Subsequently, Wangui Mbugua joined McKinsey and Co. where she worked for almost 4 years as a management consultant.
