Who is Mohamed Kande, the new Global Chairman of PwC?

Appointed at the beginning of November, Mohamed Kande is the first African to become Chairman of one of the world’s four largest financial audit and consulting firms, known as the “Big Four”. He also becomes the first consulting partner to lead PwC, a firm traditionally focused on audit and tax, sectors that generate $53 billion in annual revenues for PwC, according to the Financial Times. Mohamed Kande will take office in July 2024 as President of this global group active in 152 countries.

Mohamed Kande was born to an Ivorian father and a half-Lebanese mother. Born and raised in Côte d’Ivoire, he grew up in a half-Catholic, half-Muslim family. “I’m a black man. I’m an immigrant. I speak English with a French accent. And my name is Mohamed,” he wrote in a 100-word essay, published on his LinkedIn account, in 2021, and at the instigation of his daughter. In this essay, Mohamed Kande talks about the challenges and opportunities of being black in his professional career in the USA.

An expert in operational strategy, technology development, mergers & acquisitions and operations management, Mohamed Kande joined PwC in August 2011, after Pwc acquired PRTM, where he was managing partner. He is currently Vice President of PwC US, co-responsible for consulting solutions in the US and responsible for global consulting services. He is also Managing Director of consulting activities in the USA and Japan. In this capacity, he leads PwC’s global consulting activities and co-leads its US consulting business. In this role, Mohamed Kande is responsible for helping PwC’s clients identify value, design and execute large-scale business-led change from strategy to results, particularly in the areas of transactions, transformation, cybersecurity, privacy and risk, cloud and digital, as well as tax consulting.

In his role as Global Advisory Leader, Mohamed Kande, explains PwC, played a leading role in driving the network’s alliance strategy and was the executive sponsor of the network’s investments in key areas such as generic artificial intelligence (AI), managed services and business model reinvention.

Prior to this, Mohamed Kandel was PwC’s global head of consulting in the US and worldwide for the technology, media, telecommunications and hospitality sectors.

Operational strategy

Prior to joining PwC, Mohamed Kande was Managing Partner of the Europe, Middle East and South Asia business of PRTM Management Consultants, which specialized in supply chains and product innovation, before being acquired by PwC in 2011 and becoming its specialist management consulting subsidiary. PRTM claims to be the global leader in operational strategy, supply chain, product development and customer value management.

Prior to becoming Managing Partner of PRTM, Mohamed Kande was Managing Partner of PRTM’s Global Public Sector business. He also continued to be a senior partner in PRTM’s telecommunications and technology practice.

Prior to this, Mohamed Kande worked for Motorola in Chicago and DTI Telecom in Canada, deploying and launching telecommunications networks in the USA, Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Africa.

Mohamed Kande holds an MBA from the University of Chicago, an MSc in Electrical Engineering from the Université de Montréal and a BS in Electrical Engineering from the École supérieure d’ingénieurs en génie électrique in France, and was licensed as a Certified Public Accountant in Washington, D.C., in 2022. He sits on the board of CARE, a global humanitarian organization that provides disaster relief in crisis regions and long-term solutions to global poverty.
