The announcement of the appointment of Grace Muliisa was made by Kim Kariisa, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Ecobank Uganda. She succeeds Annette Wabunoha Kihuguru, who retired after a distinguished 30-year banking career, the last eight years of which were spent with Ecobank Uganda, first as Executive Director and most recently as Acting Managing Director.
Ecobank Uganda opened its doors in Uganda in 2009 and provides wholesale, retail, investment and transaction banking services and products to governments, financial institutions, multinationals, international organizations, medium, small and micro enterprises and individuals. Today, Ecobank Uganda serves over 24,000 customers across the country through a network of 14 branches in Kampala, Entebbe, Mbarara, Jinja, Mukono and Bugema, 36 ATMs across the country and over 170 employees.
Prior to her appointment, Grace Muliisa was the Director of Retail and Corporate Banking at Stanbic Bank Uganda, since July 2020. Kim Kariisa said, “She is a seasoned leader with a proven track record of leading change, driving strategy and building a high-performance culture. She brings a wealth of experience in retail and commercial banking, credit and operational risk management, investment banking and digital transformation, among others.”
Grace Muliisa, it is explained, has over 20 years of experience in the banking industry. She had been with Stanbic Bank since September 2019 and was responsible for driving the retail growth strategy and execution at Stanbic Bank Uganda.
Prior to Stanbic Bank, Grace Muliisa worked at Standard Chartered Bank Uganda as Country Manager, Retail Clients from November 2011 to 2016. Between 2017 and 2019, she worked for Standard Chartered Bank in Singapore as Operational Risk Manager, before returning to Uganda in September 2019 to join Stanbic Uganda.
Grace Muliisa holds a Bachelor of Social Science/ BA (Hons) degree, obtained in 1998 from Makerere University, Uganda’s largest and oldest public university. In 2018, she obtained the Chartered Banker CBMBA designation from Bangor Business School, Wales, UK.
