Originally from Rwanda, Jocelyne Muhutu-Remy has held this position since November 2021. She has lived for long periods in Ethiopia, France, Kenya and South Africa, where she still resides.
Prior to her appointment, Jocelyne Muhutu-Remy was head of Meta’s (formerly Facebook) strategic media partnerships with media in sub-Saharan Africa. Her team worked with news, entertainment and sports publishers to advise them on developing and growing their audience on Facebook and Instagram. In the news sector, Jocelyne Muhutu-Remy’s work also included managing projects around news integrity and combating misinformation. In entertainment, she supported content creators, public figures and broadcasters on strategies for success on platforms.
The Walt Disney Company Africa
Prior to joining Facebook, Jocelyne Muhutu was responsible for content distribution at The Walt Disney Company Africa, the subsidiary of The Walt Disney Company in South Africa that owns and manages Disney productions for the African market. In this role, she was responsible for the business development and sales of Disney, Disney-Pixar, Marvel, Lucas Film and ABC Studios programming across all media in Africa as well as developing exposure for key Disney television franchises in key markets in Africa.
Viacom International.
Prior to this, Jocelyne Muhutu was responsible for the African distribution of Viacom International Media Networks Africa. In this role, she was responsible for the distribution of television channels and content sales for broadcast platforms and digital media in sub-Saharan Africa as well as development, business strategy and customer relationship management.
Early career as a journalist.
Jocelyne Muhutu-Remy began her career as a journalist at the Voice of America and Radio France Internationale (RFI), before joining Reuters Television as a reporter. She was later promoted to head Reuters’ media accounts in Africa.
Jocelyne Muhutu-Remy holds a Master’s degree in International Relations and Geopolitical Studies, Middle East and Africa, from the Institut National des Langues et Civilisations Orientales (INALCO), in Paris, France. She also holds a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism from the Ecole de Hautes Etudes en Sciences de l’Information et de la Communication (Celsa-Sorbonne University), Paris, France and a degree in Applied Foreign Languages from Grenoble Alpes University, the main institution of higher learning in Grenoble, France.
