Canal+ Group has announced the appointment of Aziz Diallo as General Manager of Pay TV for French-speaking Africa, effective March 2025. This promotion recognizes his exceptional career within the Canal+ group, which he joined in 2015. Aziz Diallo will report to David Mignot, Managing Director of Canal+ Africa.
With over 20 years of experience, Aziz Diallo has distinguished himself through his ability to develop markets, improve financial performance, and lead dynamic teams across several Canal+ subsidiaries in Africa. His new role will be to manage and oversee all Canal+ Pay TV operations in French-speaking Africa, a key market currently undergoing digital and competitive transformation.
David Mignot, Managing Director of Canal+ Africa, stated: “Aziz has made a significant contribution to the group’s operations, first in Mali and then in Côte d’Ivoire, which has become the third-largest market for Canal+. I am confident that his leadership, solid expertise in African markets, and the roles he has held in our subsidiaries will be crucial assets in supporting Canal+’s ambitions on the continent.”
An outstanding career at Canal+
Prior to this appointment, Aziz Diallo served as Managing Director of Canal+ Côte d’Ivoire for eight years (2017 – 2025). During this time, he achieved remarkable growth, increasing the number of subscribers fivefold and improving the profit margin by six percentage points. Under his leadership, the Ivorian subsidiary became one of the most successful in the group in Africa, both in terms of revenue growth and commercial innovation.
In addition to these financial successes, Aziz Diallo fostered a culture of excellence and leadership among his teams. His management contributed to the development of numerous employees, two of whom were promoted to Managing Directors of Canal+ subsidiaries in other countries.
Before Côte d’Ivoire, he had already proven his abilities as Managing Director of Canal+ Mali (2015 – 2017). His time in this country was marked by impressive subscriber growth, with a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of +55% for two consecutive years (2015 and 2016). He succeeded in positioning Canal+ as the undisputed market leader, surpassing three competitors and consolidating the group’s presence despite a complex security environment.
A strong telecommunications background
Before joining Canal+, Aziz Diallo held several strategic roles in the telecommunications sector, particularly with MTN, one of Africa’s leading mobile operators.
In 2014, he was Senior Manager for Services and Distribution at MTN Côte d’Ivoire, where he led a team of 79 employees and oversaw sales worth half a million euros per day. His role also involved managing customer experience improvement programs, enhancing subscriber satisfaction and loyalty.
From 2009 to 2014, he served as Senior Operations Manager at MTN’s WECA (West and Central Africa) regional office. Based between Accra and Johannesburg, he was responsible for strategic planning, business development, project management, and performance analysis for key markets such as Nigeria, Ghana, Côte d’Ivoire, Cameroon, Benin, Guinea Conakry, Congo Brazzaville, Liberia, and Guinea-Bissau.
This pan-African experience allowed him to develop a deep strategic understanding of African markets, as well as expertise in business development, distribution, and customer relationship management.
A career that started in consulting and engineering
Before specializing in telecommunications and audiovisual media, Aziz Diallo worked in strategy and management consulting. He was a Senior Consultant at Greenwich Consulting (2008 – 2009), where he worked on strategic consulting projects for companies in the telecommunications and media sectors. He also worked as an analyst at Oliver Wyman (2007), specializing in strategy and operations, which strengthened his expertise in financial analysis, strategic planning, and performance optimization. He also held a technical position at Alcatel (2004 – 2006) as a “Tendering Manager,” overseeing pre-sales and bids for fixed telecommunications network projects in Africa.
A solid educational background
Aziz Diallo holds a Master of Science in Strategic Management, earned from HEC Paris in 2007. This prestigious education provided him with a deep expertise in strategic management, market analysis, and decision-making in an international environment.
Prior to this, he completed a telecommunications engineering program at the Félix Houphouët-Boigny National Polytechnic Institute (INP-HB) in Yamoussoukro, where he studied from 1998 to 2003. A brilliant student, he ranked among the top of his class and held responsibilities within the school’s Junior Enterprise, serving as president in 2002.
This dual education, combining engineering and strategic management, has given Aziz Diallo a unique vision that blends technical expertise with management skills, a major asset in his career and ascent within major companies.
