BMW Group South Africa appoints Julia Modise as the new Director of Human Resources

BMW Group South Africa & Sub-Saharan Africa announced on February 21 the appointment of Julia Modise as the new Director of Human Resources and Klaus von der Osten-Sacken as the Director for Digital and Global Solutions. Klaus von der Osten-Sacken and Julia Modise assumed their new roles as of 1 January 2022 and 1 February 2022, respectively.

With 23 years of human resource (HR) expertise, including 13 years at an executive level, Julia Modise, says BMW Group, brings invaluable and vast experience to the BMW Group, gained across the retail, manufacturing, listed property, media and entertainment, as well as consulting sectors.

Julia Modise expressed her excitement at the appointment: “I am honoured to join such an incredible team at BMW Group South Africa and am looking forward to the journey ahead. The company is committed to ensuring business continuity in the face of market volatility. In line with this vision, I will partner with business to deliver People solutions, processes and perspectives. These are intended to put our people first, increase our flexibility, boost collaboration between employees and encourage them to deliver their very best every day.”

Julia Modise holds a postgraduate diploma in Leadership from Stellenbosch University (South Africa); a B.Sc. in Business Administration and Management from Indiana Wesleyan University (USA) and a diploma in Human Resources Management from the Institute of People Management (South Africa).

Human resources expert in multinational companies

Since April 2020, she was the chief people officer at Bridgestone South Africa, a leader in the automotive industry and evolving from a premium tyre producer to a mobility solutions provider. Today, Bridgestone develops, manufactures, and markets tyres for passenger, light truck, truck, bus, earthmoving, agricultural, motorcycle, and aircraft applications. For her role as chief people officer at Bridgestone, Julia Modise has been nominated for the 2021 CHRO Awards, the leading networking platform for CHROs (Chief Human Resources Officers) and HR professionals in South Africa.

Prior to joining Bridgestone, Julia Modise was the executive search consultant for Spencer Stuart Executive Search and Leadership Advisory, one of the world’s leading global executive search and leadership consulting firms, specializing in chief executive and board directors. She joined Spencer Stuart after fulfilling the role of general manager human resources at Multichoice Group.

In addition, Julia Modise has held the role of executive head of human resources at Growthpoint Properties, the largest South African primary Real estate investment trusts (REIT) listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchane (JSE) and  an international property company with assets in South Africa, Eastern Europe, Australia and the UK.

Julia Modise also has been and group human resources director at Goodyear Tyre and Rubber Holdings. Prior to that she spent eight years at Cummins in South Africa. Cummins is an american company that designs, manufactures and distributes diesel and natural gas engines, as well as related products such as filters and turbochargers. Julia Modise started at Cummins as a human resources manager and moving to human resources director. She has also held a human resources consultant position at the South African Revenue Service and a human resources manager role at Edcon, which was the leading clothing, footwear and textiles (CFT) retailing group in South Africa.
