France: Hugues Kenfack re-elected President of Toulouse Capitole University

Hugues Kenfack, a native of Cameroon, has been re-elected President of Toulouse Capitole University on Thursday 1 June. He was elected for a 5-year term, renewable once.

Hugues Kenfack, says the University of Toulouse, was elected by an absolute majority of the 33 members of the Board of Directors present or represented. He received 28 votes in favour (and 5 blank votes).

With his re-election, Hugues Kenfack becomes the first president of the experimental public establishment (EPE), since the University of Toulouse Capitole changed its status on 1 January 2023, with the ambition of becoming one of the major French and European higher education and research establishments by 2025.

Université Toulouse Capitole is a member of the University of Toulouse, along with 30 other higher education establishments and research bodies located in 11 cities and 8 départements. It is one of only two French higher education establishments to feature in the world’s top 100 in the Shanghai ranking, economics/business section.

The project to transform the university

Hugues Kenfack, who has been President of the University of Toulouse since the end of 2020, was responsible for the project to transform the university into an experimental institution. From 2007 to 2012, he was vice-president of the universitý in charge of the Scientific Council.

Hugues Kenfack has been a professor of private law at Toulouse Capitole University since 2004. He is also director of the Master 2 contracts and responsibilitý of professionals; of the Master 2 international lawyer, since 2005; and director of the Master International Business Law, since 2011.

Previously, Hugues Kenfack was a lecturer at Toulouse I and II University (1997-2001). From 2012 to 2017, he was dean of the facultý of law and political science and, from 2014 to 2017, he held the position of vice-president of the conference of law deans in charge of training.

His areas of expertise are domestic and international contract law, international trade law, business law, arbitration and mediation. He is the author of several books in these fields.

Visiting professor

Hugues Kenfack is a visiting professor at several universities in the USA, China, Belgium, Poland, Lebanon, Morocco, Tunisia and Cameroon.

Hugues Kenfack is also an international expert consultant to the United Nations on international trade law and international contracts. He is an arbitrator and mediator, provides training for legal professionals, notably at the Airbus Legal Academy, and is a member of several professional organisations (French Arbitration Committee, French Arbitration Association).

Hugues Kenfack was also Director of the Warsaw International College of French and European Law (2002-2004) and Director of the Warsaw Master 2 in French and European Business Law (2002-2004).

Hugues Kenfack is an Officer of the Palmes académiques and a Knight of the French Légion d’honneur.
