Access Bank (Ghana) Plc. announced on July 18 the appointment of Ana Sarpong Bawuah as chairman of its board of directors, the first woman to hold the position. She succeeds Frank Beecham, who held the position from January 2014 to May 2022.
With a bachelor’s degree in political science and French from the University of Ghana, Legon and an MBA in strategic management and marketing from the Goizueta Business School at Emory University, Atlanta, USA, Ana Sarpong Bawuah is a strategic management executive with more than 25 years of experience and in-depth knowledge of innovative solutions and best practices in public affairs and communications. Her core competencies include management strategy and business development, applied analysis of client relationship metrics, and deal creation, structuring and execution.
Career in Multinationals
Ana Sarpong Bawuah has worked for multinationals such as Coca-Cola as Regional Public Affairs and Communications Manager for North Africa and Equatorial Africa, and for Newmont Mining as Senior Director of Government Relations for the Africa region. Prior to these positions, she worked as Vice President of International Transaction Services for Citigroup Corporate and Investment Bank at Citi’s New York headquarters and was West Africa Director for the Whitaker Group, a leading corporate strategy, transaction advisory and project development firm specializing in business in Africa.
Ana Sarpong Bawuah has also served as a UNDP advisor on aid and funding coordination to the Ghanaian government and as founder and CEO of Mark 7 Consult, a management consulting firm.
Ana Sarpong Bawuah is currently the founder and Executive Chairman of GG&B Partners Brokerage Limited, an insurance brokerage and business advisory firm, and continues to provide intermediation and advisory services to large corporations and multinationals to help them navigate the public policy and community development spaces.
Member of several boards of directors
Ana Sarpong Bawuah is currently the Chairman of the Board of Tallmast Ltd, whose primary business is to connect high quality originators/financial institutions with investors in the Ghanaian capital market through securitization.
She has served on several Ghanaian corporate boards including Ghana Commercial Bank (GCB Bank), Ghana’s largest bank in terms of total operating assets and share of industry deposits, with 14.2% of total industry deposits. Ana Sarpong Bawuah was responsible for nine countries, including Guinea, Cape Verde, and Sao Tome and Principe, and was responsible for stakeholder engagement and government relations, building relationships and collaborating effectively with external stakeholders to create opportunities to facilitate GCB Bank’s operations.
Ana Sarpong Bawuah has also served on the Board of Directors of Zawadi Girls Educational Fund, Newmont Akyem Development Foundation, Callens Solutions Ltd
